PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a solid state imaging device capable of preventing a shading immediately after a horizontal blanking period without increasing the number of terminals and a kind of driving pulses. SOLUTION: In a period when a signal charge is transferred from a vertical register to a horizontal register during a horizontal blanking, a driving pulseψH2 impressed to a transferring electrode except a transferring electrode for receiving signal charges from the vertical register is determined as a continuous pulse to make a capacitive coupling between the horizontal register and a drifting diffusion layer equal level of that in an effective period.
