PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dropping device for a weight and a method for dropping the weight using it, which is difficult to be a hindrance to a working process even when the suspension and free dropping of the weight are repeated. SOLUTION: In the dropping device for the weight, by which the weight is suspended and dropped freely, the dropping device is composed of rod bodies, which are installed to the weight and in which recessed sections or projecting sections are formed to peripheral surfaces at regular intervals, an internal cylinder, in which the rod bodies are guided and inserted, a center-hole jack, to which the internal cylinder is fitted and arranged and which is constituted of the internal cylinder or an external cylinder, in which itself can be moved along the axial direction, and gripping means, which are arranged at both ends of the jack and configured so that the rod bodies are gripped and released freely. In the dropping device, the gripping means consist of a plurality of gripping sections brought into contact with the peripheral surfaces of the rod bodies and movable sections moving the gripping sections towards the rod bodies, and fitting sections engaged with the recessed sections or projecting sections of the rod bodies are formed to contact surfaces with the rod bodies of the gripping sections.
