<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing a printing output for confirmation and examination, and easily specifying a defective part by outputting image data from an image reading section and image data stored in an image information storage section to a piece of recording paper so that the images are overlapped. <P>SOLUTION: In a first IC 510 in an LED writing control circuit 502 of a writing section 500, a test pattern is formed, image data from an image memory section 301 and the test pattern formed in the first IC 510 are composed, and the composite pattern is lighted on an LED head 503. Fig. 4 shows a printed pattern. An image pattern 600 is image data for a piece of paper which has been transmitted from the reading section, and a grid pattern 601 is the test pattern which has been formed in the first IC 510 of the circuit 502.
