<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer method by which a toner image is transferred from an image carrier to transfer paper by using a transfer belt without using an external cleaning device such as a fur brush and also without causing variation in the characteristic of the surface of the transfer belt. <P>SOLUTION: In the transfer method by which the image carrier where an image area possessing the toner image to be transferred is intermittently formed by holding a non-image area and the transfer belt arranged so as to face to and come into contact with the image carrier are used and the toner image in the image area of the image carrier is transferred to the transfer paper by successively feeding the transfer paper to the transfer belt in timing for positioning the image area on the transfer belt while applying transfer bias potential to the transfer belt and also reverse transfer bias potential is applied to the transfer belt in timing for positioning the non-image area on the transfer belt, the peripheral length of the transfer belt is set equal to or shorter than the length of the non-image area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
