<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for methane fermentation that can efficiently pulverize and decompose a mixture containing organic wastes and biodegradable plastics, and generate less residue of methane fermentation. <P>SOLUTION: The method comprises a pulverization step where the mixture containing the organic wastes and the biodegradable plastics is pulverized by a crusher 11 and a grinder 12, a biodegradation step where biodegradable plastics are decomposed at 40 to 60°C under an anaerobic atmosphere while being slurried in a plastics decomposing tank 13, and a fermentation step where the slurry from the biodegradation step is fermented in a methane fermentation tank 15.
