An arrangement for detecting the relative speed of and/or distance to a remote object 4 is disclosed. The arrangement comprises a Doppler radar arrangement which includes an elongate wave transmitting antenna 2 and an elongate wave receiving antenna 3. The antenna 2,3 are mounted such that they are parallel and spaced apart by a predetermined distance. Each antenna 2,3 may be a slotted coaxial cable. The measuring area of the arrangement 5 may be substantially equal to the area between the antenna 2,3. The antenna 2,3 may be mounted on the outer skin of a vehicle 1. The information obtained by the arrangement may be utilised, in the vehicle 1, for preparation or initiation of a safety device such as a seat belt pretensioner or an air bag. |
