The present invention provides methods and compositions for treating infectious disease or suppressing inflammation associated therewith or ameliorating symptoms thereof by the suppression of the activity of a member of the interleukin-1beta-converting enzyme (ICE)/CED-3 family of proteases. Also provided are compositions useful for these purposes. Exemplary compounds useful in the methods of the invention are provided herein.
