One component of a side-by-side conjugate filament is nylon-12 having a relative solution viscosity of 2-4. The other component may be nylon-6, 7, 9, 6À6, or 6À10; or a copolyamide having a m.p. above 150‹ C. and optionally containing up to 15% of sulphonamide units. The copolyamide may be of 90% nylon-12 monomer and 10% nylon-6 monomer, 90% nylon-6 monomer and 10% of nylon-11 monomer or hexamethylene diammonium terephthalate, or 90% of nylon-6À6 monomer and 10% of nylon-6À10 monomer. The ratio of the components may be 1 to 1/3-3. The filament may be stretched at 20-150‹ C., and then treated with hot water or saturated steam. |
