PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a gallic acid glycoside. SOLUTION: This method for producing a compound represented by the general formula (2) (Y is an acyl group-removed monosaccharide, disaccharide or oligosaccharide residue; R is an alkyl, an alkenyl, an aralkyl or an aryl) is characterized by treating a compound represented by the general formula (1) (X is a monosaccharide, disaccharide or oligosaccharide residue whose hydroxyl groups are partially or wholly protected with acyl groups) with less moles of a base than the moles of the acyl groups in the substituents X of the compound to remove the acyl groups of the sugar portions.
