<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump water heater capable of preventing heating capacity from being largely lowered when a mode is switched. <P>SOLUTION: In this heat pump water heater, in a transient from either of an atmosphere heat mode in which hot water is supplied by a hot water supply heat exchanger 12 by utilizing heat obtained by an atmosphere heat exchanger 14, a bath heating mode in which bath water is heated by a bath heat exchanger 13 by utilizing heat obtained by the atmosphere heat exchanger 14, and a bath waste heat mode in which hot water is supplied by the hot water supply heat exchanger 12 by utilizing heat obtained by the bath heat exchanger 13 to the other mode, the operation of a compressor 11 is not stopped.
