A pressure container (1), wherein a fiber-reinforced resin layer (4) formed of fiber-reinforced resins (3), i.e., reinforced fibers impregnated with resin is formed on the surface of a container body (2), an internal pressure is applied to the container body after the fiber-reinforced resin layer (4) is hardened so that a distortion on the surface of the container in the circumferential direction is 0.7% to 0.9% to apply a pre-stress to the container body (2) and the fiber-reinforced resin layer (4) so as to elastically deform (self-restraining treatment) the container body (2), and high-pressure gas is stored in the container at such a filling pressure that a rupture pressure is 2.2 to 2.8 times the filling pressure, whereby since excellent fatigue characteristics and excellent bursting characteristics can be provided to the pressure container and the weight thereof can be reduced, the pressure container (1) can be suitably used for a storage container for high-pressure gas.
