A magneto-optical disk drive has a problem that it is difficult to render it low-profile because there is a magnetic head elevating mechanism in an upper part of a cartridge. A notch 1e and concave portions 1c, 1d are formed on openings 1a, 1b for having a magnetic head 10 of a disk cartridge 1 inserted. A diskcartridge has a slide plate 14 slidably mounted on a top surface of a cartridge holder 9, a lift member 16 rotatably supported on the slide plate 14 and a driver 17 for moving the slide plate 14 in parallel by a predetermined amount, and lifts up the magnetic head 10 by moving the lift member 16 which goes into the openings 1a, 1b of the disk cartridge 1.
