<p>A seat belt (11) for restraining an occupant to a seat has a tension-varying means (12, 16) for enabling tension applied to the seat belt (11) to be varied and tension-detecting means (15, 17) for detecting tension on the seat belt (11). Failure-detecting means (18) is provided in a seat belt device. The tension applied by the tension-varying means (12, 16) and the tension detected by the tension-detecting means (15, 17) are compared, and when the difference in the two is equals to or more than a predetermined value, the failure-detecting means (18) detects that at least either the tension-varying means (12, 16) or the tension-detecting means (15, 17) is in failure.</p> |
