PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means capable of simply and surely correcting a reading error caused by the variation of an original carrying speed without performing complicated data processing in sheet through type image reading. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with two sets of line sensors for reading out the same surface of originals arranged so as to be separated from each other by a prescribed distance in the original carrying direction, a pixel data recording means for digitizing outputs from these sensors and recording the digitized outputs in a memory, a carrying speed abnormality judging means for mutually comparing corresponding pixel data of both the sensors which are shifted by time corresponding to original carrying time between both the sensors and judging the abnormality of the original carrying speed, and a memory replacement control means for replacing the pixel data of a carrying speed abnormal part of at least one sensor to the corresponding pixel data of the other sensor on the basis of the judgment of the judging means.
