PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic detection element in which side reading can be prevented, reproduction sensitivity can be enhanced and the gap can be made narrower, and to provide its producing process. SOLUTION: The magnetic detection element comprises a pair of first antiferromagnetic layers formed to have gaps at a specified interval in the track width direction, a first material layer having an irregular crystal structure formed thinner than the first antiferromagnetic layer in the gap with the same composition as that of the first antiferromagnetic layer, a first free magnetic layer, a nonmagnetic intermediate layer and a second free magnetic layer formed sequentially from below on the first antiferromagnetic layer and the first material layer, and a pair of second antiferromagnetic layers formed on the second free magnetic layer through gaps at a specified interval in the track width direction.
