PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor whose luminance deterioration caused by energy supply to the phosphor and by thermal treatment is little, especially the phosphor whose luminance deterioration caused by plasma exposure and by thermal treatment is little. SOLUTION: This phosphor is characterized by adding Ln (Ln is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Mn) as an activating agent to a compound represented by the general formula : M<SP>1</SP><SB>x</SB>M<SP>2</SP><SB>2-2a</SB>M<SP>3</SP><SB>a</SB>P<SB>a</SB>O<SB>4+x</SB>[M<SP>1</SP>is one or more elements selected from Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn or Mg; M<SP>2</SP>is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Si and Ge; M<SP>3</SP>is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Al and Ga; (x) is >0 and≤6; (a) is >0.2 and≤1].
