PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can continuously form a high-quality image with high efficiency and stability by eliminating a factor capable of degrading an image to be formed. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is equipped with: a dye misregistration amount detecting means for detecting the amount of misregistration of each color dye, which is transferred to a dyeing layer by each of recording heads 11b-13b, with respective to the dyeing layer; and a recording head correcting means for determining a correction parameter according to the amount of the dye misregistration, detected by the dye misregistration amount detecting means, so as to correct the position of each of the recording heads 11b-13b with respect to a recording intermediate belt 6 by using the correction parameter. Thus, the dye misregistration varying depending on each of the pressing states of the respective recording heads 11b-13b can be automatically corrected in an all-inclusive manner, and the high-quality image with no color drift can be stably formed.
