<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the opening/closing state of an opening/closing mechanism from being erroneously detected and also to reduce power consumption at the standby time. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a power source circuit generating voltage to be supplied to an internal circuit, a high voltage generation circuit 2 generating high voltage from the voltage generated by the power source circuit, the opening/closing mechanism provided in an apparatus main body, a switch 15 provided between the power source circuit and the high voltage generation circuit and changing a conduction state interlocked with the opening/closing mechanism, and a control part 6 controlling the driving of the high voltage generation circuit based on the voltage applied through the switch, and forms an image according to an electrophotographic process.
