<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide constitution of an optical ADM element with which sufficient crosstalk for optical communication can be obtained and a small-sized optical ADM device of low power consumption can be manufactured in high yield. <P>SOLUTION: In an optical add/drop device, an array type diffraction grating demultiplexer 31 and an array type diffraction grating multiplexer 32 are formed on a quartz substrate 30, a reflection type optical switch array 33 constituted by integrating reflection optical optical switches in an array shape is formed between an output waveguide of the array type diffraction grating demultiplexer 31 and an input waveguide of the array type diffraction grating multiplexer 32, and optical circulators 37 and 38 are connected to an input port 36 for light waves and an output port 35 for lightt waves respectively. Optical waveguides formed on the quartz substrate do not cross one another and problems of size, power consumption, and inter-channel crosstalk of a conventional type can be evaded. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
