PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device that safely starts the discharge lamp, maintains lighting, and safely stops the circuit action even failed lighting is continued in the life advanced stage of the discharge lamp or the like. SOLUTION: In the discharge lamp lighting device, a direct current power source 1 having at least a fuse element 12 is connected in parallel to an inverter circuit 2 having at least a transistor 21 or 22, wherein the inverter circuit 2 is provided with a driving circuit 6 that turns on or off drives the transistor. The output end of the inverter circuit 2 is connected to a resonance circuit 3 comprising a condenser 31 and inductance element 32. Further, the output end is connected to the discharge lamp 5 and is connected to a condenser 4 in parallel with the discharge lamp 5.
