Method for monitoring and or transfer of data packets between at least two network participants, whereby in response to recognized incorrectly transmitted data packets and correctly transmitted packets, a security orientated monitoring of a preset error limit over the transfer medium is implemented. To enable said monitoring a data packet (1) has useful data (2) that includes expected data records (22, 23) that are used in determining if the data has been correctly or incorrectly transmitted. An independent claim is made for a device for monitoring transfer of data packets between at least two network participants. The invention also relates to a corresponding network and use of such a network within building technology, process industry, manufacturing, public transport or automation systems.
