The present invention relates to a transition metal compound represented by the general formula (I), and a olefin polymerization catalyst comprising above transition metal compound and activating co-catalyst as the main components.(wherein, M represents a metal element in the groups 3 to 10 of the periodic table or in the lanthanoide series, X represents a sigma bonding ligand bonded to M, Y represents a Lewis base, A represents a cross-linking group, p is an integer of 1 to 20, q is an integer of 1 to 5 and represents [(valence of M)-2], r is an integer of 0 to 3. R<1 >represents a group in above R<2 >to R<9 >except hydrogen atom). The present invention provides a transition metal compound useful for olefin polymerization catalyst, and olefin polymerization catalyst using above compound.
