A composition for preventing urinary calculi caused by metal ions liberated from a compound containing a lanthanoid metal or another heavy metal in image diagnosis or therapy using that compound, which comprises a multidentate ligand capable of forming a complex with lanthanoid metal ions or other heavy metal ions, or an alkaline earth metal complex of said ligand. The multidentate ligand can be a bifunctional ligand having a polyaminopolycarboxylic acid, polyaminopolyphosphonic acid or the like as its site for forming a complex with a metal and chemically bonded to a physiologically acceptable oligosaccharide or the like, or can also be a polyaminopolycarboxylic or polyaminopolyphosphonic acid per se.
