PURPOSE: A device for directly connecting a storing medium and a network, and an operating method thereof are provided to share a hard disk with many computers without the troublesomeness for continuously turning on the computer or buying an expensive NAS(Network Attached Storage) by directly connecting the hard disk to the computers through the Ethernet. CONSTITUTION: An Ethernet port(14) connects a CPU(13) with the network. A hard disk controller(12) directly controls the hard disk(11) in order to store/read the data from the hard disk. A memory(15) stores a program for transmitting/receiving a packet through the network, connecting to the network, deciding an IP(Internet Protocol) address, analyzing a packet/protocol, confirming a transmission protocol, and certifying a user, and the program for reading/storing the data to the hard disk, and stores the data temporarily. The CPU initializes the connection with the network by controlling each component. The CPU stores or transmits the data by setting a direct referring area to the hard disk after confirming the transmission protocol and certifying the user by analyzing the packet/protocol.
