PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aerosol generator capable of correcting an output value of aerosol density detecting sensor in advance and specifying the correlation of the aerosol density and the sensor output value, to surely cope with the engine trouble of a ship in safety on the basis of the quantified data by using the aerosol density detecting sensor. SOLUTION: This aerosol generator used for fuming the lubricant used in the engine of the ship and the like, comprises a lubricant injecting means 4 for injecting the constant quantity of lubricant into a space of a predetermined capacity, a heating means 5 for heating the lubricant to a specific temperature for fuming, and a diffusing means 2 for approximately uniformly diffusing the fumed lubricant in the space by the heating means 5, and at least one of the capacity of the space and the injection quantity of the lubricant is variable.
