PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide digital equipment in which a user can retrieve image data stored in a mailbox at an arbitrary time with an arbitrary keyword. SOLUTION: The digital equipment includes a character recognizing means for extracting the character from a digital image, a storage means for storing the recognized character by correlating the recognized character to the digital image, a keyword input means for inputting a keyword desired by the user to retrieve, a retrieval means for using the input keyword to retrieve the character stored in the storage means, a display means for displaying mailbox information of a corresponding image according to correlation from the retrieved result from the retrieval means, and a selection means for selecting specific data out of the list of the retrieved results by the user. Thus, images such as a PDL print image, a scan image or the like inputted by a plurality of different input means can be uniquely retrieved with high certainty without lowering throughput of the digital equipment, and documents in the equipment distributed on a network can be also collectively retrieved.
