PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines, especially diesel engines, simultaneously attaining its low ash content and engine cleanness and damaging no exhaust gas after-treatment device, especially DPF( diesel particulate filter ). SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition for diesel engines is obtained by compounding a lubricating base oil with 0.05-0.5 mass%, on a zinc basis, of at least one compound selected from a group of weak acid zinc salts based on the whole composition. This composition is characterized in being≤1 mass% of sulfated ash. An additive comprising preferably the weak acid zinc salt(s) as a constituent of this lubricating oil composition is also provided.
