<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for efficiently applying format registration composite to a registered format registrated image and a double sided original. <P>SOLUTION: In the case that a double sided original including images 102, 103 laterally set is read, since it is not required to set an image rotation angle, the first side image is composed to obtain a composite image 106 without rotating the image. In the case that the double sided original longitudinally set is read, a ten-key is used to set the image rotation angle to 180 degrees, the images are rotated 180 degrees and the first side image is composed to obtain composite images 106, 107.
