PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manhole cover which assures safety walk by eliminating a handle recess when the cover is installed in a manhole, facilitates installation and removal work by inhibiting accumulation of rain water and sand, does not cause environmental pollution by inhibiting accumulation of rain water and requires reduced transportation cost by reducing the packing volume by making a lock device unnecessary because it is not opened and reduced manufacturing cost by reducing the number of parts. SOLUTION: In the manhole cover having the handle recess on the surface of the cover body, an embedded member is detachably fitted in the handle recess, and the exposed face of the embedded member is made substantially flush with the surface of the cover body.
