Method for operating a combustion engine (10), especially for a motor vehicle, in which a component (24, 34, 38) of the engine, especially a fuel injector, is to be calibrated from time to time. The calibration is to be carried out when the engine is not generating a torque, i.e. coasting, and is operating at constant speed. To achieve this the crankshaft (32) is driven at constant speed by an electric motor during the calibration. The invention also relates to a corresponding computer program, memory in which the program is stored, control unit and combustion engine.
