<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily and surely select a desired image out of a number of images. <P>SOLUTION: In an electronic program guide for selecting a program, the electronic program guide (data stream) composed of a still picture resulting from reducing the representative picture of a program is displayed while being superimposed on a picture of a program that is originally received and displayed. When a command for moving a cursor upward or downward is inputted while the cursor is positioned on a predetermined category, a still picture of the category is scrolled downward or upward.
