PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of forming an alignment film of a uniform thickness over the entire surface of a substrate by suppressing the marginal phenomenon which gives rise to a significant difference in the film thicknesses between the central part and edges of the alignment film patterns printed by changing the structure of a transfer plate. SOLUTION: The projecting parts of the transfer plate are divided to the edges and the central part and the dots to be formed in these two portions are formed to vary in the sizes and heights of the dots and the arraying intervals of the dots in order to eliminate the significant differences between the edges and the center of the alignment film on the substrate. If the surface of the substrate is coated with the alignment film by utilizing the transfer plate having the projecting parts of the double structures, the difference in the film thicknesses between the edges and the center is overcome, and the liquid crystal display device of the excellent quality suppressed of a gap defect and screen display unevenness can be provided.
