PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material that has a small transmission loss and that has a wide band, and to provide a polymeric composition for the optical material, and the optical material that uses it. SOLUTION: The polymeric composition for the optical material is polymeric monomer, consisting of ethylene unsaturated monomer, has a refractive index different from that of the monomer and contains aromatic sulfide compounds (A is a repeating unit, consisting of the ethylene unsaturated monomer, and l, m and n are positive integers) expressed by general formula (1) or (2). The manufacturing method of the refractive index distribution optical member includes a process of causing polymerizing the polymeric composition for the optical member, preferably a process of causing polymerizing interface gel.
