The multiple layer heat insulating cladding for a pipe has an outer mineral wool layer (2) and an inner lining layer. The inner layer (1) is of a high temperature resistant fibre material with a thickness selected so that, in dependence on the conductivity of this layer and the pipe temperature, a thermally activated alteration of the mineral wool layer is prevented.
