In a process to load and unload railway wagons a low-loading wagon chassis (40) with cargo-holding attachment (1) superstructure is brought to a loading/unloading station. Prior to discharge, the cargo attachment (1) is raised to a discharge level by lifting gear and then removed sideways and placed on a flat supporting surface (140) where cargo container loading/unloading takes place. The railway wagon chassis is loaded by the reverse procedure. The lowering/lifting gear is located below and to the side of the railway wagon chassis and rests on a fixed bed or platform. Further claimed is a method to transfer the wagon load-bearing superstructure (1) to another train, a loading and unloading device, a wagon chassis and commensurate cargo-bearing superstructure.
