A process for the manufacture of bitter drinks or for the bittering of drinks, which process comprises adding to a solution suitable as a drink base, instead of hops or extracts isolated from hops, a synthetically pr????? compound of the general formula , wherein R represents a straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl group containing up to 5 carbon atoms, or a physiologically tolerable salt thereof and a bitter substance solution suitable for the manufacture of bitter drinks, said solution containing synthetically prepared compound of formula I or a physiologically tolerable salt thereof. |
