The cylindrical permanent magnetic component (3) on e.g. the rotor (2), forms a constant air gap (7) with the stator (4). On the side opposite the air gap (7) it (3) has a non-cylindrical surface. This gives the permanent magnetic component a varied thickness, around its circumference.
