PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera whose focusing can accurately and easily be confirmed even when an imaging element is small-sized and a display element of an electronic viewfinder has low display resolution. SOLUTION: The electronic camera 100 detects, in terms of a defocusing quantity, how much photographic field light obtained by imaging part of photographic field light by a photographic lens 102 on a phase difference type detection unit is out of focus. A focusing state display area 131 is set at the center part of a display surface 130 of a display part 108 and halved into an upper area 131a and a lower area 131b. The number (s) of pixels to be shifted and displayed is calculated from the defocusing quantity (d).
