PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recorder and a monitor camera system knowing beforehand the malfunction of a picture data storage part of a recording medium, etc. SOLUTION: The video recorder 3 is furnished with the picture data storage part 9 for making the picture data from the camera 2 picking up an objective image to store in the recording medium by the digital picture data, a control part 8 for displaying the digital picture data stored in the recording medium on a monitor 4 as the video, an error storage part 10 for storing a writing error of the digital picture data to the recording medium, and a notification part 14 for notifying as a sign of the malfunction in the picture data storage part 9 when the frequency of writing errors exceeds a preset frequency.
