PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that performs the uniform primary electrification of a photoreceptor drum 1 regardless of the surface potential right before it is primarily electrified, eliminating variations in image density. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has the photoreceptor drum 1 and an electrifying roller 2 which electrifies the surface of the photoreceptor drum 1, that is, a face 1a to be electrified. In the image forming apparatus, the potential of the face 1a right before it is electrified by the electrifying roller 2 is detected by a surface electrometer 10.
