PURPOSE: A method for extracting a summary route in a navigation system is provided to extract only a predetermined amount of summary points when extracting the summary route in a traveling route. CONSTITUTION: A method for extracting a summary route in a navigation system includes a step of searching a traveling route of a moving member from a present position to a destination of the moving member based on map data stored in a data storing unit(204). A plurality of summary points located on the traveling route and information of the summary points are extracted from the map data(206). A predetermined number of summary points is extracted from a plurality of summary points to display the summary point in the summary route(218). A predetermined number of summary points and information of the summary points are displayed in a display section(222).
