PURPOSE: An air conditioner and a method for controlling air conditioner are provided to improve the accuracy of estimating an outdoor air temperature without using an outdoor air temperature sensor. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner(10) includes a compressor(16), an outdoor heat exchanger(19) and an outdoor fan(20). A temperature sensor(30) is installed in the air conditioner for detecting a temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger. An outdoor temperature estimating element(41) is installed in the air conditioner for estimating the outdoor air temperature by correcting a result of the temperature detection by the temperature sensor on the basis of a rotating speed of the outdoor fan and an operation frequency of the compressor.
