PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of reducing the capacity of a line buffer memory and decreasing the cost. SOLUTION: A CCD line image sensor 31 whose number of pixels is L reads an original, an AFE circuit 32 analogically amplifies image data, an analog/digital converter 33 applies multi-value digital conversion to the amplified image data, and using the line buffer memory 35 whose capacity is set to the number of pixels being L/4 applies magnification processing to the original image read data subjected to shading correction by a shading correction circuit 34. A regenerating circuit 40 generates a read enable signal with a period in response to a magnification rate at which the data are to be magnified, and the read enable signal re is used to read data of the line buffer memory 35.
