PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable, vertical type thermal power generation plant for reliably connecting a generator, a gas turbine, and the like vertically in series by rationally and efficiently connecting each kind of rotary shaft such as the generator and the gas turbine for supporting. SOLUTION: Each rotary shaft of the generator and the gas turbine for composing the thermal power generation plant is arranged in series in a perpendicular direction. The casing of the generator is supported by a highly stiff bearing stand at a building trestle on the foundation. The upper combustor side turbine casing and the lower compressor side casing of the gas turbine are supported by the flexible bearing stand of the building trestle on the foundation, and the highly stiff bearing stand of the building trestle on the foundation, respectively. Each rotary shaft is connected by a flexible joint in series, the upper and lower end sections of each rotary shaft are subjected to both ends support by a radial bearing, and a thrust bearing for suspending and supporting a perpendicular load operating on the rotary shaft concerned is provided at the upper end section of each rotary shaft.
