PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handle for a sliding door capable of being lightly opened/closed with a small force even if there is a little rattling in the sliding door and a little strong free lock is installed for prevention of reaction, by setting a power point of an operating cam to work as a horizontal pushing force along the opening direction of the sliding door, when operating the handle lever. SOLUTION: The handle for the sliding door is constituted of a handle lever 3 movably retained through a pivot shaft 2 in a case 1, an actuation cam 4 extended to the opposite side to the pivot shaft 2 integrally with the handle lever 3, and a pushing bar 5 horizontally moving from the retreating posture to the advancing posture by pressing by the actuation cam 4 with the swinging motion of the handle lever 3. The pushing bar 5 is formed so that the front end of the pushing bar protrudes from a hole 6 opened at the side face of the case 1 to the advancing posture against the elastic force of a returning spring 7.
