PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge-bending roll capable of easily and rapidly initializing a roll position in the width direction of a steel strip, and to provide a roll position initialization method therefor. SOLUTION: The edge-bending roll is provided with two upper rolls which are used for upward bending both end parts in the width direction of the steel strip, brought into contact with the and the upper surface of the steel strip, free in the movement in the vertical direction and the right and the left directions, arranged in the right and left; lower rolls which are brought into contact with the rear surface of the steel strip, divided into the right and left but immovable in the vertical direction and the horizontal directions; sensors which are provided on the outlet sides of the upper and the lower rolls for measuring the bending shape of the steel strip; and position adjusting means for the upper rolls by which the vertical shifting distances and/or the right and the left horizontal positions of the upper rolls arranged in the right and left are adjusted so that the bending shape in both end parts of the steel strip are symmetrical on the basis of the measured value. In the roll, inclined positional reference surfaces which are touchable each other in a cross-sectional view are respectively provided in both end parts of the upper rolls and the lower rolls.
