The castering wheel (12) for fitting underneath a piece of mobile equipment has a fastening plate (15) for inserting and gripping in a slot located in the bottom surface of the equipment. A housing is installed on the fastening plate and contains a longitudinally movable shift gate component, operated by a central component, and into which protrudes a brake operating element (16,17). With movement of the shift gate component a shift gate (21) with at least two spaced apart optional positions (22,23) acts upon the brake operating element to change position. An independent claim is included for a frame-like platform for the attaching of castering wheels.
