The method involves pre-preparing base surface (26) of slide plane (22, 29) of guide block blank (47) and supplying material (41) which is to be applied to the base surface and then locally fusing the material through a contact-free local heat input (35) e.g. laser beam. Specific geometries of the divisions are generated by moving the blank and/or beam (35) of the heat input relative to each other and then smoothing out the contact bearing face of the fused material to generate a flat bearing face of the slide plane. Independent claim describes slide block of hydrostatic piston engine where divisions are formed by a local fusion of a supplied material.
