The power transmission unit is for a flying machine whereby by rotating movements by the legs movement mechanisms are set in motion which enable upwards and downwards movements of flapping wings to be achieved after the fashion of a bird. A mounting plate has two bolts for the guiding of a drive beam which can move up and down on the bolts. With rotating foot movements the drive beam can be moved via a drive rod.
