<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for forming an alignment layer which has the surface to be subjected to rubbing treatment to cause a liquid crystalline compound of an optical function layer consisting of the liquid crystalline compound, to be easily aligned by its aligning force and is superior in durability and is superior in adhesion to the optical function layer and to provide a method of manufacturing an optical element using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The composition for the alignment layer is used for manufacturing an optical element composed of a support 1, an alignment layer 2, and an optical function layer consisting of the liquid crystalline compound and contains at least a polymer having one or more primary amino groups and/or secondary amino groups (A) and water and/or a lower alcoholic solvent (B). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
